Dancing with the Stars and American Idol have become equally as popular for gamblers who have taken a liking to betting on reality television contestants. The two most popular shows in the US have their seasons winding up this week, and the betting odds show that two males are the favorites to win the competitions.

Unlike Idol, DWTS has three participants, not two, left. Hines Ward has been the favorite for several weeks in a row, and the Pittsburgh Steelers star wide receiver is a 1/2 favorite heading into the finale.

Ward has spent his summer not at the collective bargaining table like many of his peers that are in a bitter legal dispute with the league, but instead, on the dance floor. After being an early underdog, Ward quickly became the favorite and has not looked back, giving several thrilling performances over the past month.

Chelsea Kane came out of nowhere to wow fans on DWTS around mid-season. Kane is a 3/1 choice, meaning that gamblers would win $300 for every $100 bet at a Las Vegas sports books should Kane win. The sports books have been taking bets on Idol and DWTS at a time when only the NBA is capturing gamblers’ attention in the sports world.

The long shot of the three remaining finalists is Kirsti Alley. The former Cheers star was expected to be knocked out of the competition early on, but she has dazzled fans and judges, and somehow has danced her way into the top three this season. Alley has only slightly longer odds than Kane at 4/1.

Idol will also close the book on another season this year. As has been the case for several years in a row, a male singer is the betting favorite heading to the finale. Scotty McCreery, a favorite of the judges all season long, has used his deep country voice to gain 1/5 odds this week. Gamblers would have to be $500 for every $100 they wanted to win, and that may be too much for bettors to place in the hands of voters.

Lauren Alaina, another teen sensation like McCreery, is a 3/1 choice. Alaina was the third betting choice last week, but survived elimination. Haley Reinhart was sent home by fans, leaving McCreery and Alaina to battle it out this week for the title of American Idol for season ten.
